A contemporary art show in an unusual (mostly online) era.
Brief
The ‘Fine Art’ and ‘Fine Art and Design in Education’ departments of the University of the Arts Utrecht presented the work of their graduates during the Offline graduation show at the Pastoefabriek. This 2021 graduation class was the first exhibiting their work during the pandemic. As the academy saw the value of this physical show for it’s graduates ‘Offline’ was born. Keeping tradition and not taking the easy route of posting the work online. But taking the time to ensure a unique and safe experience in real life.

Approach
As we were creating artwork for a contemporary art exhibition in an unusual situation we felt there was more room to trigger the audience through visual experiment rather then traditional communication. We created a custom typographic ‘OFFLINE’ image that we layered over a more strict typographic grid. Using different crops of the graphic we created a variety of intriguing compositions. All set in black and white creating one visual language taking over the academy.
